Burg Alt-Urach, Medieval castle ruins in Lenzkirch, Germany
The stone remains of Burg Alt-Urach stand on a mountain ridge overlooking the Haslach Valley, featuring a rectangular residential tower and circular wall structures.
Built in the 13th century by the Lords of Urach, the castle served as the center of power for Lenzkirch until 1491 when it was sold to the Counts of Fürstenberg.
The castle ruins represent the architectural practices of medieval German fortifications and demonstrate the regional power structures of Baden-Württemberg during the Middle Ages.
The castle site is accessible from Federal Road 315 at the entrance of Titisee-Neustadt, with restoration work completed in 1996 by the Black Forest Association of Lenzkirch.
Archaeological excavations at the site revealed a house extension added around 1404, indicating modifications to adapt to changing residential needs of the medieval nobility.
