Hochfirst, Mountain summit in Black Forest, Germany
Hochfirst is a mountain summit in the Black Forest reaching 1,190 meters and surrounded by dense forest between the towns of Saig and Titisee-Neustadt. The peak features a steel lattice observation tower and is home to a ski jumping slope for international competitions.
An original wooden observation tower was built in 1888 and destroyed by a hurricane, leading to the construction of the current steel structure in 1890. This steel tower has remained the defining landmark of the mountain since its creation.
The Hochfirstschanze on the mountain hosts World Cup ski jumping events where international athletes compete before crowds during winter. The site draws fans from around the world who watch the spectacular jumps from the slope.
Hiking trails connect to the peak from multiple starting points such as Saig, Titisee, and Neustadt, with the most direct route beginning from Saig. The paths are well marked and visitors should expect changing weather and hilly terrain.
The 25-meter steel lattice tower offers views extending to the Alps of three countries on exceptionally clear days, including Mont Blanc. On such days visitors see a rare sight of distant mountain ranges that usually remain hidden.
