Ursee

Ursee is a nature reserve near Lenzkirch at 840 meters in elevation with water bodies fed by several small streams that flow toward the Haslach River. The site spans 30.4 hectares and features marked hiking paths for visitors to explore.

The site was designated as a protected area in 1940, making it the third nature reserve in the Black Forest region at that time. It followed the earlier protected areas of Feldberg and Wutachschlucht.

Local folklore links this lake with Lake Titisee through stories about supernatural beings said to inhabit the waters of both lakes. These tales continue to shape how people relate to the place today.

The site can be explored on marked trails that offer different routes through the protected area while preserving the natural environment. Visitors should stay on designated paths to protect the local flora and fauna.

The lake has shrunk considerably since the 1930s and left behind moraines and debris from the once much larger Feldberg glacier. These traces of the glacial past remain visible in the landscape today and tell the story of the ice ages that shaped the region.
