Weißes Rössle

The Weißes Rössle is a building at the upper end of Höllental street that once served as an inn with a stable where horses were changed for steep mountain journeys. The structure has served various purposes and was later converted for medical use.

The building dates back to 1344 when it was first mentioned as a farm under the management of Günterstal Monastery. When the road from Freiburg to Lenzkirch was improved in the 19th century, the need for horse-changing services declined.

The Weißes Rössle reflects how the village adapted to changing travel routes and remained important for people moving through the region. Visitors can see how a building serving travelers became part of the community's identity.

The building is visible from the street and easy to locate since it sits high on the slope. Keep in mind that this is a private property and can only be viewed from the exterior.

A fire in 1925 led to a reconstruction that clearly separated agricultural operations from hotel services for the first time. This marked a turning point where the two former functions became distinct.
