Liebenzell Castle is a hilltop fortress above the town of Bad Liebenzell, built around a six-story keep with very thick stone walls. A great hall decorated with pointed ornamental arches stands alongside the keep, and several other buildings occupy the rest of the grounds.
The castle was built in the 12th century by the counts of Calw as a stronghold in the region. In 1196, ownership passed to the counts of Eberstein, marking a shift in power among the local nobility.
The castle now hosts an international youth forum that brings together young people from many countries. Walking through the grounds, visitors notice how a medieval space has taken on a new social role without losing its old character.
The grounds can be explored on foot, and the hilltop position offers open views over the surrounding landscape on clear days. A restaurant on site operates year-round, but opening hours for other parts of the castle may vary by season, so checking ahead is a good idea.
