Hodenhagen Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Hodenhagen, Germany
The castle site features an oval rampart measuring 109 by 95 meters in diameter, positioned next to the Meiße River with water-filled defensive moats.
Construction of Hodenhagen Castle began around 1200 by the von Hodenberg family after relocating from Altenbücken, until its destruction in 1289 by Duke Otto.
The von Hodenberg noble family placed a commemorative stone at the castle site in 1856, marking their ancestral connection to this medieval fortification.
The castle ruins are located near the entrance of Serengeti Park, partially within a small forest area and surrounding agricultural fields.
Archaeological evidence indicates the presence of a round bergfried tower with a 10-meter diameter and external walls measuring 2.5 meters in thickness.
