Burg Hohentrüdingen, Medieval observation tower in Heidenheim, Germany
The castle keep rises 27 meters high with walls reaching 4 meters thick at the base and features distinctive humpback ashlar masonry construction.
The Counts of Truhendingen built this castle at the end of the 11th century, receiving the land as a fief from the Eichstätt monastery bishop.
The minstrel Wolfram von Eschenbach mentioned the castle around 1200, praising the hospitality of the Counts and their special donut recipe.
The castle keep now functions as both a church tower for the village and an observation point offering views of Hesselberg and Ries regions.
Following financial difficulties and the extinction of the Truhendinger family in 1424, the castle passed to the burgraves of Nuremberg in 1404.
