Burg Hohentrüdingen

Burg Hohentrüdingen is a medieval fortified tower in Heidenheim that stands as a stone witness to the region's past. The tower shapes the village landscape today and continues to serve an active purpose in daily life.

The Truhendingen family built this fortification at the end of the 11th century after receiving the land as a fief from the Eichstätt bishop. Their rule ended in the 15th century when the site passed to the burgraves of Nuremberg.

The name comes from the Truhendingen family who ruled from here and used it as their seat of power. The site still reflects the medieval power structures that shaped the local region.

The tower is easy to reach from the village and offers views across the surrounding countryside. Keep in mind that it functions as an active church tower and access may depend on village services and events.

The poet Wolfram von Eschenbach mentioned this fortification around 1200 and praised not just the lords' hospitality but also a local culinary specialty. This literary reference shows the place was known for more than just its military role.
