Burgstall Regenstauf, Medieval castle ruins in Regenstauf, Germany.

Burgstall Regenstauf is a medieval castle in Bavaria with preserved foundation remains and wall structures of a fortified complex on elevated terrain. The site shows evidence of residential chambers and defensive walls that have been documented through archaeological study.

The Lords of Heresing built this fortress in the 12th century, with Rudigerus de Heresingni first documented around 1134. The castle served the local nobility for centuries as a way to secure their control over the valley.

The site shows how medieval lords protected their lands and why such fortifications mattered to the region. The ruins reveal the power these rulers held over the local valley and surrounding territories.

The site is accessible through marked hiking paths and cycling routes that connect to the Regental cycle network. Good footwear is recommended since the terrain is hilly and can become slippery, especially after rain.

Excavations revealed the existence of multi-story residential structures at the site, showing that medieval building techniques were more advanced than commonly assumed. These findings provide insights into daily life standards that were far more sophisticated than popular understanding suggests.
