Burg Hugofels

The stone remains of Burg Hugofels stand on a wooded ridge above the large and small Alpsee lakes near Immenstadt in Bavaria.

Built in the early 13th century, the castle formed a dual fortress complex with neighboring Burg Rothenfels until its acquisition by the Counts of Königsegg-Aulendorf in 1567.

The square residential tower with four corner reinforcements represents an architectural design rarely found in the German Alpine region, following French and Swiss models.

The castle ruins maintain two observation points on the remaining walls, with information panels explaining the historical development of the fortification.

The tower basement contains a small water cistern in its northeastern corner, discovered during excavations between 1932 and 1939.
