Burg Ingenhoven

Burg Ingenhoven, Medieval castle in Nettetal, Germany

Burg Ingenhoven is a castle in Nettetal featuring a rectangular brick structure with two stories, a steep hipped roof, and round corner turrets at each corner. The building showcases these architectural elements as part of its overall design and structure.

The site was first documented in 1403 and belonged for a long time to the Lords of Bocholtz. Dutch military forces attacked and burned it in 1581, which led to its reconstruction.

The name comes from a family that once held power in this area. Walking through the structure reveals architectural elements layered from different periods in its evolution.

The castle operates today as a hotel and restaurant, making it accessible to visitors on the grounds. Check the opening times beforehand, as access is tied to operating hours.

It originally stood on an artificial island connected by a bridge to a nearby manor house. The moats surrounding the place were later filled in, so this geographic feature no longer exists today.
