Egapark, Cultural heritage park in Erfurt, Germany
Egapark is a 36-hectare park in Erfurt with multiple exhibition halls, themed gardens, and sculpture areas that greet visitors with varied plantings. Paths wind through peony collections, iris varieties, and changing flower displays throughout the year.
The park developed during the East German period as an exhibition venue and grew from earlier garden projects of the 19th century. Since its founding, it evolved into a significant center for horticulture and plant cultivation in the region.
The name comes from the International Horticultural Exhibition of 1961 and draws visitors who want to experience gardening culture firsthand. People walk between flowers and artworks here, while gardeners demonstrate their craftsmanship on hedges and garden beds.
The park is accessible from several entrances with marked paths for walking through different areas. A children's area called GärtnerReich, exhibition halls, and seasonal flower markets make visits interesting for families.
The iris collection preserves historical varieties developed by breeder Dr. Alexander Steffen that would otherwise have disappeared from gardens. This diversity of old iris varieties is found in only a few other places.
