Tierpark Fauna, Animal park in Solingen, Germany
Tierpark Fauna is a small zoo in Solingen featuring around 80 different animal species and approximately 300 individual creatures spread across 1.5 hectares. The grounds sit at the edge of the Ohligser Heide nature reserve and display mammals, reptiles, and birds in open enclosures that visitors can view from close range.
The park was founded in 1927 as Ohligser Vogelpark with an original focus on birds and bird breeding. Over the decades, the collection expanded to include mammals and reptiles, eventually leading to its current name and broader animal collection.
Visitors regularly interact with animals through feeding and touching during specific times throughout the day. The compact layout encourages families to linger and develop a personal connection with individual creatures rather than rushing through.
The grounds are easily walkable with most paths flat and stroller-friendly for parents with small children. The compact size allows visitors to see all the animals in two to three hours, making it suitable for flexible visit schedules.
One of the most notable attractions is a small tropical house where visitors can observe corn snakes, lizards, tarantulas, and free-roaming ant colonies in action. This mix of exotic reptiles and living insects is unusual for a park of this size.
