Altes Gräfrather Rathaus

The Altes Gräfrather Rathaus is an administrative building in Solingen's Gräfrath district with two wings that meet at a rounded turret with a clock. The architecture displays traditional Neubergisch elements and uses regional building materials that give the structure its distinctive appearance.

Architect Arno Eugen Fritsche designed the town hall in 1907 for what was then the independent city of Gräfrath. The building ceased its administrative role when Gräfrath was incorporated into Solingen in 1929.

The building houses the Kunstmuseum Solingen, which focuses on modern works and creations by local artists. Visitors can experience exhibitions dedicated to regional and contemporary creators like Georg Meistermann here.

The building stands near the market square and is easy to reach as a museum. Inside, visitors find exhibition spaces and art galleries that can be explored at a leisurely pace.

The facade combines different materials such as slate, roof tiles, plaster, and wood in alternating patterns. This material mix creates a visually interesting texture that appears different depending on the light and weather.
