Maria-Himmelfahrt-Kirche

The Maria-Himmelfahrt-Kirche features a 90-meter-high bell tower with balustrades, pinnacles, and an octagonal pyramid crowned by a tower sphere.

The first church was constructed in 1158 under the direction of Abbot Günther of St. Blasien, following orders from the Bishop of Konstanz Hermann.

The central shrine of the high altar contains sculptural representations of Mary and other saints, accompanied by relief images depicting scenes from Mary's life.

From May to October, visitors can climb the church tower every Wednesday at 5 PM, with advance registration required at the Schönau Tourist Information office.

The current structure, rebuilt in 1908, stands at a 45-degree angle from the original building's main axis, requiring substantial foundation reinforcement.
