Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen EAO

The Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen is an educational center in Saarland focused on European topics, offering conferences, workshops, and seminars on democracy and sustainability. The grounds feature multiple buildings, a park with artworks, and a 7-kilometer sculpture trail connecting various artistic installations.

Founded in 1954 by Arno Krause, the academy evolved into an important meeting point for international gatherings and debates about Europe. Over the decades, it became established as a center for political education and academic exchange.

The grounds display over 400 contemporary European artworks scattered throughout buildings, hallways, and the park. These pieces shape the character of the place and invite visitors to encounter art during their walks.

Visitors must be at least 16 years old and can join guided tours in German, English, or French through the art collection and sculpture trail. The grounds are spacious and suited for walking, so wearing comfortable shoes is advisable.

Within the academy grounds sits the Arboretum Europaeum, displaying tree species from Central Europe alongside rare specimens from other parts of the world. This botanical collection is often overlooked by visitors, though it holds its own appeal for nature enthusiasts.
