Peterberg Observatory, Public observatory on the Peterberg near Nohfelden, Germany

The Peterberg Observatory is a public facility in Nohfelden equipped with telescopes and instruments for viewing the night sky. The location offers clear sightlines to celestial objects from its elevated hilltop position.

The association was founded in 1977 with the construction of an observatory written into its statutes. The groundbreaking took place on 5 May 1993, and the building was inaugurated on 6 September 1997. A southeastern annex with a second dome was added between 2003 and 2005.

On the first Saturday of each month, volunteers give a public lecture followed by a tour and, when the sky is clear and dark, a joint observation session. Since 2003 the observatory has taken part in Germany's nationwide Astronomy Day, and it also hosts a observatory festival and special events for astronomical phenomena.

Visitors should plan around observation nights and programs held throughout the year, which often require advance planning. Warm clothing and flexibility are helpful, since stargazing depends on clear skies.

The observatory operates as a registered association where member volunteers actively participate in research and education. This grassroots approach gives the facility a personal and welcoming character.
