Ernst-August-Denkmal, Bronze equestrian statue in Mitte, Germany
The Ernst-August monument displays King Ernst August I wearing a hussar uniform, mounted on horseback, cast in bronze atop a granite pedestal.
The monument, inaugurated in 1861 with 23,000 participants, celebrates Ernst August I, who served as King of Hanover from 1837 until 1851.
The statue represents a central meeting point in Hanover, situated in front of the main railway station on Ernst-August Square.
Visitors can reach the monument through multiple public transportation options at Hanover Central Station, with wheelchair access available throughout the square.
During the construction of the underground railway system in 1971, authorities temporarily relocated the statue to Leine Palace before returning it in 1975.
