Exotarium Oberhof

The Exotarium Oberhof is an indoor facility housing multiple terrariums and aquarium tanks of varying sizes containing tropical and subtropical animal species. The setup combines freshwater aquariums with terrestrial and arboreal exhibits in one continuous display space.

The facility opened in 2000 and expanded five years later to include a dedicated aquatic section. This addition transformed it into a combined terrestrial and aquatic exhibition space serving the surrounding region.

The facility displays amphibians, reptiles, and aquatic animals in settings that mirror their natural habitats, creating a learning environment for visitors of all ages. Groups often visit to observe these species and develop an understanding of how they live in the wild.

The indoor spaces are accessible during regular opening hours and provide ample room for walking through the exhibits and observing the animals. Plan to spend about one to two hours to view all the displays at a leisurely pace.

One of the notable features is an unusually long aquarium tank designed to replicate tropical river ecosystems. This setup allows visitors a rare look at the complexity of river habitats that would otherwise require travel to remote regions.
