Rondell, Obelisk monument at Rennsteig crossroads in Oberhof, Germany.

The Rondell is an obelisk standing at the junction where Thuringian State Road 3247 meets the Rennsteig hiking trail at 826 meters elevation. This structure marks an important intersection in the forested mountain region of Central Germany.

The monument was built to commemorate the road construction of 1830 to 1832, overseen by Gothaian captain Julius von Plänckner, which connected the duchies of Gotha and Coburg. This project resulted from regional cooperation to improve transportation links.

The monument serves as a natural meeting point along the Rennsteig where hikers and locals converge from different directions. Over time, it has become a recognizable landmark that connects visitors to the mountain landscape and the trail network.

A parking area with around 200 spaces is available near the monument, making it easy to access the area and start exploring. From this location, visitors can connect to various hiking trails and nearby attractions in the region.

The monument resulted from cooperation between Prussia and the Duchy of Gotha, allowing for toll-free passage to Prussian territories. This unusual arrangement made the location an important crossing point for commerce and travel in the 19th century.
