The Wildekopf peak rises to 943.2 meters above sea level in the Thuringian Forest, forming a northwestern extension of the Großer Beerberg mountain.
Prior to the incorporation of Gehlberg and Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig municipalities, Wildekopf represented the second-highest elevation point within Suhl's city boundaries.
The mountain contributes to the geographical identity of Thuringia, positioned among three major peaks that define the central mountain range of the region.
Hikers can access the mountain through established trails, with the Oberhofer mountain hut located 1,545 meters northwest of the summit providing rest facilities.
The eastern face of Wildekopf features one of the steepest slopes in the central massif of the Thuringian Forest, creating a notable geographical formation.
