Evangelische Kirche Marienhagen

The Evangelische Kirche Marienhagen is a church building with a cross-ribbed vault in its nave, located in Wiehl. Next to it stands a Romanesque tower that was built by members of the Knights Hospitaller order.

The church developed from a combination of Gothic architectural elements with an older Romanesque tower, showing construction methods from different periods. Artworks on the walls remained hidden under layers of whitewash until they were rediscovered in the early 1900s.

The interior contains artwork depicting religious stories and reflecting the style of early medieval craftsmanship traditions. The wall decorations tell of faith and daily life as understood in this region.

The interior is accessible during daylight hours, and the best time to visit is in the morning or early afternoon when fewer people are around. The church is located near the town center and is easy to reach on foot.

A historical walking route with more than 20 information panels leads from here through the landscape around Marienhagen and points out places of local interest. The route is marked with a distinctive symbol showing the church building.
