Fellhorn Lift, Cable car system in Oberstdorf, Germany.
Fellhorn Lift is a cable car system in Oberstdorf that climbs in two sections from Birgsautal to the Fellhorn summit. The lower and upper stations sit at different elevations, with the peak reaching around 1,967 meters (6,450 feet).
The first cable car began operating in 1972 and has connected the valley to the mountains ever since. The system was later expanded with a second section to carry more passengers.
The name refers to the Fell mountain that the lift climbs toward. Along the way, visitors find restaurants where traditional mountain dishes are served.
The journey requires reasonable fitness, especially if you plan to hike at the top. Bring warm clothing since it is considerably colder at elevation.
The upper section is one of Germany's longest single-rope cable cars. This engineering choice allows the system to operate efficiently and move large crowds smoothly.
