Fellhorn, Mountain peak in Bavaria and Vorarlberg, Germany and Austria
Fellhorn is a 2038 meter mountain peak in the Allgäu Alps forming the border between Bavaria and Vorarlberg. It is served by a network of cable cars and lifts that connect skiing areas on both the German and Austrian sides.
The Fellhorn cable car system was built in 1972, opening the summit for winter sports and creating a permanent link from the valley to the peak. This infrastructure has been modernized over the years to accommodate more visitors and improve operational safety.
The mountain attracts winter sports enthusiasts from both countries who share the connected slopes and cross-border infrastructure. This joint use by German and Austrian visitors has created an international character visible in the daily life on the mountain.
The mountain is best accessed during winter when the lifts operate regularly and slopes are groomed. Visitors should bring warm clothing and be aware that conditions at the elevation can be windy and cold regardless of valley weather.
The summit is covered with alpine roses during flowering season, giving the mountain a pink appearance in the summer months. These blooming plants form one of the most visible features of the mountain and draw visitors during the warmer season.
