Maria Opferung

Maria Opferung is a parish church in Riezlern featuring Romanesque Revival elements including an ornate facade and detailed interior furnishings. The building displays a clear structure with a prominent central nave and side chapels, complemented by an adjacent cemetery with numerous historical graves.

Construction of the church took place between 1686 and 1689 following designs by Sebastian Carlone the Younger, replacing a chapel destroyed in the Second Turkish Siege. In the early 1700s, master builder Franziskus Jänckl modified the structure to achieve its present form with Baroque interior furnishings.

The church serves as the spiritual center of Riezlern and hosts regular services, weddings, and baptisms for the local community. Throughout the year, residents gather here for religious celebrations and local festivities that remain important to village life.

Both the church and cemetery are open to visitors and display gravestones from different time periods. Access to the interior is generally available during opening hours and service times, so it is helpful to check in advance when the building is accessible.

The building contains original Baroque furnishings that came from the previous chapel and were incorporated during the early 1700s renovations. These furnishings give the church interior a distinctive character that reflects the continuity between the older and newer phases of the building.
