Mittelberg

Mittelberg is a mountain municipality in the Kleinwalsertal valley in Vorarlberg at around 1,200 meters elevation. The area spreads across three connected villages along the Breitach stream.

The settlement began around 1300 when five families from the Valais crossed the Hochalppass and built their homes in the valley. This beginning remains connected to how the place developed.

The place reflects Walser heritage through its wooden buildings and mountain farming traditions. Local ways of life remain shaped by customs passed down through generations.

The municipality can only be reached by road through German territory because it is surrounded by mountains. Visitors should keep this unusual location in mind when planning a trip.
