Kanzelwandbahn, Aerial lift in Riezlern, Kleinwalsertal, Austria

The Kanzelwandbahn is a cable car in the Kleinwalsertal that carries visitors from the valley floor up to alpine heights. The modern facility has mountain stations with access to hiking trails, ski runs, and a climbing route.

Plans for a lift to the 2,056 m Kanzelwand were discussed in Riezlern's tourism committee in 1952, and Kanzelwandbahn AG was founded on 6 March 1954 with 650,000 DM capital. Construction cost 3.8 million DM; the first ride ran on 2 April 1955. A mountain restaurant followed in 1956, and the 1973 Fellhornbahn link joined the two ski areas.

The Kanzelwandbahn has been run since 1955 by Kanzelwandbahn AG, founded on 6 March 1954 with 650,000 DM capital; Riezlern's mayor Josef Risch chaired the supervisory board. Since 1973 its slopes have been linked with the Fellhornbahn, and the lift is now part of the Das Höchste association with the Fellhorn, Walmendingerhorn and Nebelhorn lifts.

The valley station lies in Riezlern, from where the lift climbs 870 metres to the top station on the Kanzelwand. The line runs in two sections with a middle station, and the top station's free-standing entry frame is visible from afar. Snowmaking covers the pistes within 70 hours via 6 km of buried pipes and 15 snow guns.

The Kanzelwandbahn's mountain station has a free-standing cable entry frame, a structure noted as distinctive since the lift opened. The lift began operating on 2 April 1955 after construction started in 1954, and the company behind it was founded on 6 March 1954 with capital of 650,000 DM. A functional H0-scale model of the lift, with the original coloured cabins of 1955, was produced by the firm Brawa.
