Haus Niedernhofen, Former knight's estate in Hagen-Hengstey, Germany.

Haus Niedernhofen is an architectural structure in Hagen-Nord that developed on an estate along the Ruhr River. The grounds sit near the modern Hengsteysee, a dammed section of the waterway that shaped the landscape's current appearance.

The estate belonged to the Ovelacker family from the medieval period and served as their regional seat of power. Their control of the property lasted until the 18th century, after which the land changed hands and took on different purposes.

The site holds meaning as a former noble residence that shaped regional life for centuries. Walking through the grounds reveals how the landscape was once controlled and organized by an aristocratic family.

The site is readily accessible on foot, with parking available on both sides of the river. Walking paths along the north shore make it straightforward to reach and explore the historical grounds.

The original castle structure rests beneath the waters of Hengsteysee, still visible as a dark rectangular form. This submerged structure serves as a literal reminder of how dam construction transformed the landscape and submerged medieval history.
