Haus Kallenberg, Architectural heritage monument in Ende, Germany
Haus Kallenberg is a manor house featuring classical German architectural elements, originally built in the early 15th century in Ende. The property was later converted into a working farm and retains its historical building structures in the surrounding countryside.
The Knights of Vaerst zu Callenberg established their residence at this site in the early 15th century. In 1774, the owners purchased their independence from the Abbey of Werden.
The burial site of Hermann von dem Varst from 1549 remains preserved in the tower room of the Protestant church in Kirchende.
The property sits in a rural setting and can be reached by local roads. Visitors should view it respectfully from a distance, as it remains an active farmstead.
When purchasing independence in 1774, the family also acquired two additional estates in what is now the Bochum region. This expansion reveals how the Vaerst family grew their influence across the area.
