Evangelische Kirche Gummersbach

The Oberbergischer Dom features both Gothic and Romanesque architectural elements with a large west tower, transept, and eastern apses forming a cross shape.

The first documented reference to the church dates back to 1109, although the initial construction occurred around 850 as a Carolingian hall structure.

The interior contains a 13th-century Romanesque baptismal font and baroque fixtures that reflect the Protestant design principles of the Bergisch region.

The church building stands at Von-Steinen-Straße 1 in central Gummersbach, making it accessible from multiple points within the town.

During the 1580 renovation, the original ciborium was transformed into a baptistery, becoming the only structure of its kind preserved in the Oberbergisch region.
