Feinmechanisches Museum Fellenbergmühle, Fine mechanics museum in Merzig, Germany.
The Feinmechanisches Museum Fellenbergmühle is a museum of precision tools and machines in Merzig housed in a historic building. The collection spans three floors and includes working equipment for watchmakers and goldsmiths from the early 20th century.
The building was constructed in 1767 as a grain mill and taken over by Villeroy & Boch in 1922 before Johann Peter Hartfuß established his fine mechanics workshop there in 1927. This craft tradition shaped the location for several decades.
The museum displays craftsmanship techniques through working machines that artisans such as watchmakers and goldsmiths used in their daily work. Visitors can see how precision work looked in the past and what tools were necessary for it.
Former workshop employees lead visitors through the building and demonstrate the working machines and how they operate. It helps to allow time to follow the explanations and view the different workshop areas.
The building produced its own electricity through a hydropower system with a Francis turbine installed in 1929, making it independent from the public power grid. This self-sufficiency reveals the operation's independence and innovative thinking.
