Forum Alte Werft

Forum Alte Werft is a cultural center housed in converted industrial buildings from a former shipyard in Papenburg. The complex features a main hall seating about 900 people, a theater with roughly 240 seats, an art school, and a municipal gallery.

The center occupies the former Meyer Werft shipyard, which built ships until 1992 when the company relocated to a larger facility elsewhere in Papenburg. Transforming the closed shipyard into a cultural venue gave the historic industrial structures a new purpose.

The space retains visible elements of its shipbuilding past that blend naturally with today's cultural events and gallery exhibitions.

The venue offers free parking on site and is easily accessible from Papenburg train station. Opening hours vary based on the event schedule, so checking current information before your visit is recommended.

Original shipbuilding machinery and equipment remain integrated into the building structure, creating an immediate sense of the site's industrial past. Visitors encounter these relics from the shipyard era while attending events and exploring the galleries.
