Fraubillen cross

The Fraubillen cross stands 3.5 meters tall on the Ferschweiler Plateau, featuring two carved niches surrounded by multiple holes in the stone surface.

Dating back to 3000 BC, this prehistoric menhir was transformed into a Christian cross, reportedly by the missionary Willibrord during the early medieval period.

The monument represents the transition from prehistoric stone worship to Christianity, as evidenced by its modification from a standing stone to a religious symbol.

The cross is accessible from several surrounding villages including Ferschweiler, Schankweiler, Nusbaum-Rohrbach, and Bollendorf in the Eifel mountains region.

Historical documents from 1617 refer to this monument as Sybillen Creutz, suggesting a connection to prophetic women known as Sibyls in ancient traditions.
