St. Aegidii, Parish church in Münster, Germany
St. Aegidii is a parish church in Münster featuring classical architecture with a sandstone facade and exposed brickwork. The building has a four-bay hall layout with a rectangular choir section that defines its interior space.
An original church stood on this site starting in 1174, but the medieval building collapsed in 1821. The current classical structure was built afterward under architect Johann Conrad Schlaun and has remained unchanged since then.
The interior displays a baptismal font from 1557 and a neo-Gothic high altar with ceiling paintings of Old Testament scenes. These decorative elements show how artistic styles changed over centuries and remain central to the church experience today.
The church is open during regular religious services and offers additional visiting hours on some Saturday afternoons in summer. Plan your visit around service times or contact ahead if you wish to enter outside these regular hours.
The concave entrance portal displays the Plettenberg family crest, reflecting the influence this family held in the region. The tower holds three bells installed in 1961 that replaced an original set lost in previous events.
