Sculptures in the Grugapark

The Sculptures in the Grugapark is an open-air art exhibition with over 40 works in bronze, marble, and stainless steel, distributed throughout the landscaped garden areas. The artworks sit along pathways and between trees, giving each walk a constantly changing artistic dimension.

The Grugapark opened in 1929 and gradually incorporated sculptures from different artistic movements over the following decades. This gradual assembly reflects how German art evolved throughout the 20th century.

The collection features works by renowned artists such as Henry Moore and Alfred Hrdlicka, whose pieces define the landscape. These sculptures become part of the everyday experience in the park and invite visitors to explore different artistic perspectives.

The collection is accessible year-round and offers visiting opportunities in every season. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as you should take time to explore the works from different angles.

The Imploded Pyramid by Ewerdt Hilgemann, created in 2002, stands at the Linden Circle and stands out for its smooth satin stainless steel surface. This modern work forms an interesting contrast to the older sculptures in the park and shows how the collection continues to grow with contemporary art.
