Friedenskirche

Friedenskirche, Romanesque Revival church in Heilbronn, Germany.

Friedenskirche is a church building with thick masonry walls, rounded windows, and design features typical of late 19th-century German religious architecture. The interior displays elements created during its construction from 1896 to 1899.

The building was constructed from 1896 to 1899 and suffered significant damage during World War II. After the war, the church tower was demolished in 1947, with remaining structures removed by 1952.

The church served the local Protestant community and military garrison stationed in the area, creating a shared spiritual space for civilians and soldiers. Today it remains a focal point for religious gatherings and reflects the town's connection between civil and military life.

The church is located in Heilbronn and is accessible by public transportation. Visitors can approach the building directly and view the interior during community open hours.

Behind the altar stands a large fresco depicting the Last Judgment, painted by Heinrich Altherr in 1939. The artwork was completed just before the building sustained war damage, making it a rarely seen piece of pre-war German ecclesiastical art.
