Adenauerallee 81–83, Office building in Gronau district, Bonn, Germany.
Adenauerallee 81-83 is an office building in the Gronau district with a facade of uniformly arranged window rows. It houses around 350 office spaces, conference rooms, a cafeteria, a library, and an exhibition area.
The building was constructed starting in 1954 as the home of the Federal Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, serving this purpose until 1988. It then housed the Federal Foreign Office as its main headquarters until 1999.
Five bronze animal sculptures by artist Hans Wimmer on the upper floor represent the five continents. These artworks shape how visitors experience the building and reflect its international significance.
The building is located in the Gronau district and can be viewed from the outside, with its regular window pattern being particularly striking. Visitors should note that interior access is limited, so mainly the exterior view is accessible.
This was the first ministry building in Bonn to be financed through the independent funds of the Federal Postal Service. This unusual funding approach made it a pioneer in how government buildings could be constructed in the early Federal Republic.
