Geierstein, Mountain peak in Bavaria, Germany

Geierstein rises to 1,491 meters with steep drop-offs on north and south sides, featuring limestone formations near the summit and dense forest coverage.

The mountain's dual naming as Geierstein and Geigerstein stems from tales of a violin-playing hermit who lost his eye to an eagle.

From the mountain's peak, visitors can observe the entire Isarwinkel region, Munich gravel plain, Tegernsee mountains, and Wetterstein and Karwendel ranges.

Two main paths lead to the summit from Lenggries: the forested Reitenbach trail and the steeper Markeck route, both requiring 800-meter elevation gain.

The east-west ridge structure of Geierstein connects to Fockenstein peak through Sommersbachgraben, creating a natural geological formation at 1,261 meters.
