Spicy’s Gewürzmuseum, Food museum in HafenCity, Germany.
Spicy's Gewurzmuseum is a food museum in Hamburg's HafenCity that displays a large collection of spices and related objects. The exhibition space features over 900 items, including processing equipment, historical containers, and raw spice materials sourced from different countries.
The museum opened in 1991 inside a historic warehouse in the Speicherstadt district that had stood for over 100 years. It became the world's first institution dedicated entirely to the subject of spices.
The collection represents spices from different cultures and their roles in kitchens around the world. Visitors can explore various aromas at interactive stations and see how these materials shape cooking traditions across regions.
The museum is housed in a historic warehouse building and is easily reached by public transportation. Visitors should plan adequate time to explore the various exhibition areas and interactive stations throughout the space.
Every visitor receives a small gift to take home: adults get a bag of pepper while children receive gummy bears. This tradition has been part of the museum experience since its beginning and adds a memorable touch to the visit.
