Irreler Wasserfälle

The Irreler Wasserfälle is a natural cascade in the Prüm Valley that flows over dark rocks in multiple stages, forming small pools along its descent. The falls sit in a densely forested setting where moss covers the rocks and creates a cool, damp environment throughout the gorge.

The falls were developed as a hiking destination in the early 20th century when locals established pathways around them. This transformation turned them into a recognized natural landmark in the Eifel region.

The waterfalls hold a place in Eifel folk traditions, where local stories connect them to water spirits and forest creatures. Visitors experience this connection to nature as they walk through the moss-covered ravine and listen to the rushing water.

Access is via the Irreler Wasserfälle circular trail, which features multiple viewpoints and requires sturdy footwear. The paths can be wet and slippery, so careful footing is necessary throughout your visit.

The water flow changes dramatically with the seasons, reaching its peak during spring thaw when snow from nearby hills melts into the gorge. This variation means each visit offers a different experience depending on when you come.
