Gochsheim Castle, Renaissance castle in Kraichtal, Germany.
Gochsheim Castle is a Renaissance building in Kraichtal that functions as a regional museum today. Its rooms across multiple floors display art collections and historical objects from Baden-Württemberg.
Frederick August of Württemberg-Neuenstadt acquired the castle in 1679 through marriage and renovated it by 1700 after damage from French invasion. These repairs connected the building to the region's turbulent past.
The castle displays works by artist Karl Hubbuch and exhibits on local heritage of the Kraichtal region. Visitors can see how art and the area's past connect through these collections.
The museum opens every Sunday from February through November between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Hauptstraße 89 in Kraichtal-Gochsheim. Visitors should check the day of the week and season when planning a visit.
The upper floor houses one of the world's largest collections of irons with around 1,300 pieces from different periods and regions. This rare collection was gathered by Heinrich Sommer and tells an unusual story of everyday objects.
