Goetz-Höhle, Show cave in Meiningen, Germany.
Goetz-Höhle is a cave in Meiningen formed within limestone and featuring four major fissures that reach significant heights. The system stretches about 420 meters with both natural passages and sections widened through past excavation work.
A merchant stumbled upon the cave in 1915 while working on his property and initiated excavations. The discovery of ancient animal bones sparked scientific interest and prompted systematic development of the site for public access.
The cave is named after the merchant who discovered and opened it to the public in the early 20th century. Visitors walking through the illuminated passages today experience the same geological wonder that has drawn people here for generations.
Access to the cave is only possible with pre-arranged guided tours, as independent exploration is not allowed. Contact the management office ahead of time to book a visit and learn about current visiting conditions.
This is the largest crevice cave of its kind in Germany, shaped by geological processes over thousands of years. The system demonstrates how water carved passages through limestone that visitors can walk through today.
