Sturmann Cave, Show cave in Obermaiselstein, Germany.

Sturmann Cave is a show cave carved through limestone that extends 460 meters underground with multiple chambers and passages. The space features natural rock formations and descending sections that reveal different geological layers built up over millennia.

Local religious leaders opened the cave to the public around 1905 after thorough exploration had been completed. Wooden walkways and steps were built to make the underground passages safe and accessible for visitors.

Local stories tell of four wild women said to have lived in this cave, and farmers spoke of receiving gifts after finding lost belongings inside. These tales shaped how people viewed this place for generations.

The cave maintains around 4 degrees Celsius year-round, so warm clothing and sturdy shoes are essential for any visit. Tours are led by guides and last about 45 minutes, with steps descending through different sections of the underground space.

The descent uses about 180 steps that follow an underground river, which carved this cave over thousands of years. This water still flows today and continues to shape the geological structures within it.
