Kreuzbergkirche, Religious monument in Endenich, Germany
The Kreuzbergkirche stands on Kreuzberg Hill with visible towers that mark the skyline of Bonn and includes a church building, Holy Stairs, and convent structures.
Ferdinand von Bayern, the Elector and Archbishop of Cologne, commissioned the construction of this church, which was completed in 1627 on an existing pilgrimage site.
The Holy Stairs, designed by architect Balthasar Neumann in 1746, reflect architectural elements similar to those at Augustusburg Castle in Brühl.
The church complex maintains regular services throughout the week, with multiple masses on weekends and a parish office operating Monday through Friday.
Napoleon visited the site in 1804 and according to local accounts attempted to ride up the Holy Stairs on horseback, resulting in an injury.
