Gustavo-Haus, Residential building in Fennpfuhl district, Berlin, Germany.
The Gustavo-Haus is a double high-rise building with two towers reaching 18 and 21 floors located in the Fennpfuhl district. The structure contains 296 apartments and is managed by a concierge service with video surveillance.
The residential building was constructed in the early 1980s as a typical prefabricated East German structure during development of the Lichtenberg Nord housing complex. The facade transformation into an art installation took place in the late 1990s.
The colorful figures adorning all four facade sides were created by Spanish artist Gustavo and have shaped how the neighborhood looks since the late 1990s. These artworks are a daily part of life for residents and visitors walking through the district.
The building is located near Storkower Strasse S-Bahn station and Landsberger Allee, making it easy to reach by public transport. The surrounding area provides good pedestrian access, and visitors can view the artwork from street level without restrictions.
The art installation was commissioned in 1998 and features artistic figures transferred onto aluminum plates that are specially treated against corrosion. This technique ensures the colorful imagery remains protected from weather damage over time.
