Hardt, Public park in Wuppertal, Germany
Hardt is a 57 hectare park on a partially forested elevation between the districts of Elberfeld and Barmen in Wuppertal. The grounds feature forests, meadows, and cultivated gardens connected by various walking paths.
In 1807 Elberfeld decided to reforest the ridge, which had previously served as a quarry and pasture. Over time this reforestation effort became the green space that exists today.
The botanical garden was founded in 1890 and displays a diverse collection of medicinal and culinary plants in dedicated sections. Visitors can walk through the plant areas and learn how traditional species have been used over time.
The park sits about 90 meters above the Wupper River and is easily reached on foot from Elberfeld. Well-maintained paths run throughout the grounds and make it accessible for visitors of varying mobility.
Two historic towers mark the landscape: the Elisenturm from 1838 and the Bismarckturm from 1907, offering views across the entire city. These two structures stand out visually and serve as landmarks while exploring the grounds.
