Hardtberg, Mountain summit in Wuppertal, Germany
Hardtberg rises 232 meters above sea level between the districts of Elberfeld and Barmen, extending two kilometers from west to east with a width of 900 meters.
The mountain's first documented mention dates to 1593, and from 1812 to 1837 it housed the only recorded windmill in what would become present-day Wuppertal.
The mountain grounds contain the Waldbühne Hardt, an open-air theater seating 2000 people, which hosts concerts, theatrical performances, and the annual Feuertal Festival.
Visitors can access two observation towers on the mountain: the 21-meter Elisenturm from 1838 and the 22-meter Bismarckturm, open on summer Sundays.
The mountain contains the protected Hardthöhlen caves and was the site of an abandoned Cold War project to build a cavern power plant.
