Heidschnuckenweg, long-distance trail in Lower Saxony, Germany

The Heidschnuckenweg is a 223 km long-distance trail running north to south through the Lüneburg Heath, from Hamburg-Neugraben-Fischbek station to Celle Castle. It was opened in 2012 and is managed by Naturparkregion Lüneburger Heide e. V. Its surface is mostly narrow paths and forest or meadow tracks, with some asphalted sections.

The Heidschnuckenweg was opened in 2012 and is looked after by the Naturparkregion Lüneburger Heide association. The German Hiking Association admitted it to its "Qualitätswege wanderbares Deutschland" quality trails. It runs the length of the Lüneburger Heide from the Hamburg-Neugraben-Fischbek station to Celle Castle, and for its whole length it runs parallel to the European long-distance trail E1, crossing it repeatedly.

The trail runs parallel to the European long-distance route E1 for its whole length and crosses it repeatedly, so the two can be combined for an out-and-back walk. Public transport between Bergen and Soltau is very sparse, so plan stages around the stations at Hamburg-Neugraben, Buchholz, Handeloh, Soltau, Unterlüß and Celle. Of the 223 km, 84 km are narrow trodden paths, 127 km forest and meadow tracks, 52 km asphalt and 15 km country roads with footpath.

The route runs the full length parallel to the European long-distance trail E1 and crosses it repeatedly, so the two can be combined into an out-and-back tour. The trail was opened in 2012 and is looked after by the Naturparkregion Lüneburger Heide association; the German Hiking Association lists it among its quality trails.
