Kunststätte Bossard

Kunststätte Bossard is a three-hectare art compound featuring a residence, art temple, and gardens where architecture, sculpture, and painting merge into a unified creation. The site combines multiple buildings and outdoor spaces into a single artistic whole.

Johann Michael Bossard and his wife Jutta Bossard-Krull built the art complex between 1926 and 1928 on land Bossard purchased in 1911. The project embodied their artistic vision of a unified work of art.

The art temple at the heart of the site displays intense, colorful paintings on plywood walls and ceilings that depict different paths through life. These images create a distinct mood that engages visitors as soon as they step inside.

Visitors can explore the grounds and interiors at their own pace, though guided tours provide deeper insight into the artistic details. It is best to wear suitable footwear, as walking through the buildings and gardens requires mobility.

The brick buildings display expressionist geometry and embedded ceramic sculptures on the facade, constructed from clinker bricks of varying grades. This deliberate material choice creates a distinctive visual and tactile texture that shapes the character of the place.
