Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park, Wildlife park in Hanstedt, Germany
Lüneburg Heath Wildlife Park is a wildlife park near Hanstedt containing separate enclosures for roughly 1,400 animals representing about 130 species. The grounds house snow leopards, brown bears, wolves, lynxes, and many other residents in distinct living areas.
The park opened in 1970 and has grown through expansions of its animal collection and educational offerings over the decades. From the start, it focused on teaching visitors about wildlife native to Northern and Central Europe.
The park shares knowledge about wolves and otters through regular demonstrations, and presents birds of prey in flight during warmer months. These activities help visitors understand how these animals live and behave in their natural settings.
The park operates on shorter winter hours from November through February, closing at 4:30 PM with final entry at 3:30 PM. Visitors should bring warm clothing and expect to walk the grounds extensively, particularly across the spacious enclosure areas.
Two Siberian tigers inhabit a specially designed enclosure fitted with protective glass panels for safe animal viewing. This setup gives visitors an unusually close look at one of the world's rarest big cats.
