Holy-Spirit-Church, Catholic church in Pempelfort, Germany
The Holy Spirit Church is a church building in Pempelfort with Romanesque Revival architecture featuring four naves and columns in three distinct styles. The interior is defined by the 1967 Johannes Klais organ, which has 34 registers distributed across three manuals and pedal sections.
The building was constructed in 1911 according to designs by architect Josef Kleesattel and was damaged during World War II. After the war, architect Heinz Thoma led a comprehensive restoration that gave the structure its present appearance.
The stained glass windows installed in 1998 by Karl-Martin Hartmann bring contemporary art into the interior space. They shape the light and mood that visitors experience when entering the building.
The church is located on Moltkestraße and is easy to reach on foot. When visiting, keep in mind that it functions as an active place of worship, so opening times and services should be considered beforehand.
The chancel of the building rises higher than typical for Romanesque design and sits above a crypt. This arrangement combines features from ancient Roman basilica construction with modern architectural thinking.
